Woodlot, plantation and forest management
If you own a woodlot or plantation, the following will be very important to you:
- timely and efficient management of the forest operations
- benchmarking and costing of forest operations
- maintaining records to maximise returns from future harvesting
These issues apply to all forest owners from large companies to farmers with small woodlots.
This is a user-group site which you are invited to join.
It will assist you through work planning, scheduling and costing, to selection of competent and recognised contractors to undertake the work.
This site was developed to assist private forest owners through the many pitfalls which can await the unprepared. Through this site you can ask questions and get unbiased, informed, honest answers. Our basic principle is transparency (open book).
I am Paul Greaves. I have extensive experience in the forest industry in Otago, Southland and Canterbury with over 4 decades of hands on experience. I am passionate about the processes of establishment and tending. During my career I have made the mistakes which I am keen to help you avoid repeating. Unfortunately there continues to be examples of repeating these mistakes in any part of the countryside around Otago and Southland. Mistakes made in the early years are carried for another two decades – do it once, do it right!
I am more than happy to discuss forestry, anytime. My clients are now friends now and that is the way this group operates.
So if you want to join our group … then get in touch so we can help you ensure you are getting it done right.
To help in this process I have grown the company and now have two others as key parts to the business. We have also moved into the making of essential oils from different forestry Species. This sideline is a new venture being carried out by ForestPlus and looks like a firm future direction. We will make available a shop to purchases oils from.

Above is a stand my wife and I planted in 1983, Logging September 2013. I can even walk through this stand and point out faults, and my wife says why did you not do that right, I will keep those answers to myself. But our goal is $50 dollars stumpage net before tax and was achieved.
